Although Google-branded phones were highly anticipated prior to their release, their sales have failed to meet the expectations. However, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive regarding Google’s latest handset, the Nexus 3.
If the rumours are to be believed, the Nexus 3 could become one of the most highly anticipated smartphones since the iPhone 4. Here’s a roundup of the latest Nexus 3 rumours.
• It will be a 4G handset
Since the rumours surrounding Google’s latest handset started emerging, it has been referred to as the Nexus 3, the Nexus Prime and the Nexus 4G. That last moniker suggests that the handset could use the new superfast network. Although the 4G network is currently only available in selected territories, if the Nexus 3 is 4G compatible, it could please early adopters when the network reaches the UK.
• It will have 1.5GHz low-power CPU
While some rumours have stated that the Nexus 3 will have a dual core 1.2GHz processor, industry insiders are more inclined to believe that the phone will house a super-powerful 1.5GHz low-power CPU. Some of the current top of the range handsets, like HTC Sensation, already have similarly powered CPUs, and Google will be keen to stay one step ahead of its rivals.
• It won’t have any physical buttons
Some of the strongest rumours surrounding the Nexus 3 state that its body won’t house any physical buttons. This will put the handset in line with the latest trend in smartphones; Nokia’s N9 is button-free, as it the next-generation iPhone (if the rumour mill is to be believed).
• It will have an extremely large screen
Estimates have been made that the Nexus 3’s screen will be between 4 and 4.7-inches. If the latter is true, this will put the Nexus S close to tablet territory, suggesting that Google wish to bridge the gap between the two gadgets with their latest handset.
